Special incentives for checking account

Compass Bancshares, Inc. a member of the FDIC and Equal Housing Lender, which goes by the trade name of BBVA Compass and is a member of the BBVA Group, is offering a special incentive for a limited time only when you sign up for a checking account. Between May 18, 2009 and July 31, 2009, open a new BBVA Compass checking account and receive 5% cash back on quality Check Card purchases/payments made at gas stations, grocery stores, and to utility companies between May 18, 2009 and August 31, 2009.

For a purchase to qualify it must be any signature-based purchase, internet purchase, phone or mail order purchase, bill payment, contactless purchase (purchase made by holding your BBVA Compass Visa Check Card or other device up to a secure reader instead of swiping your card), or small-dollar purchase for which you are not required to sign, made with your BBVA Compass Visa Check Card that is processed or submitted through the Visa U.S.A. Inc. payment system. Cash back will be applied to the qualifying checking account within 2 business days after a qualifying purchase has posted. Cash back not to exceed $50 per calender month per Check Card.

Check Card transaction and transaction types qualifying for cash back under this offer are determined at the discretion of BBVA Compass. International Service Fees (ISA) do not apply in cash back. Purchase must be postable to qualify for cash back. Account must be in good standing to receive cash back. Cash back received on a qualifying purchase will be debited from the qualifying account if the purchase is returned.

 You can get up to $50 back a month on gas, groceries, and utilities, based on the conditions listed above. In order to be eligible, you must open a new checking account by July 31, 2009, 07/31/09.

You have to pay for gas, groceries and utilities with your new BBVA Compass Visa® Check Card, which is free with your checking account in order to receive 5% cash back! Within a couple of days of each payment, you will receive your 5% cash back automatically deposited into your checking account.

The proper way to use your Check Card!

1. When you use your Check Card, always choose "CREDIT" instead of "DEBIT" and don't use your PIN, otherwise you won't qualify for the 5% rebate.

2. If asked for a PIN, just press "cancel" or tell the cashier that it's a "credit" transaction, not a "debit."

Things you can save on!

• Utilities. Pay online, over the phone or in person using your Check Card. You can earn a rebate on just about all of your household utilities, including electric, gas and water.
• Groceries - load up your cart and swipe your Check Card.
• Gas - save every time you use your Check Card to fill up your tank and grab a few snacks.
